North Node in Scorpio: Meaning and South Node in Taurus

What astrologers say a North Node in Scorpio means, how they read the South Node in Taurus, and every stay of the node in Scorpio from 1930 to 2030.

A North Node in Scorpio puts the Moon’s ascending node in Scorpio at your birth, and some pages call it the Scorpio North Node for short. The node is a calculated point, not a planet, where the Moon’s path crosses the Sun’s heading north; the North Node guide covers that in full. This page collects what modern astrologers say about the Scorpio placement and the South Node in Taurus opposite it, then lists every date the node was in Scorpio. Everything here is belief and tradition, meant for reflection and entertainment.

North Node in Scorpio: growth toward depth

Sepharial, in 1910, puts Scorpio among the water signs and the fixed signs, and gives it to Mars: “Mars governs Aries and Scorpio”. He wrote nothing about a node in it. Among 20th-century writers, Dane Rudhyar said of the node in general that “the North Lunar Node represents the point of intake of spiritual cosmic energies”. The Scorpio meaning below comes from modern web guides alone.

On this, the guides agree. Guides widely read describe growth toward Scorpio as growth toward emotional depth: closeness that is shared rather than kept safe, and a readiness to let things change. One phrases it as a journey through transformation; another as a life pointed toward intimacy and shared resources. They describe a preference for what runs deep over what stays on the surface, and several add that the path is not always an easy one.

One guide adds a picture of privacy: people with this placement, it says, are intensely private and may keep their goals unseen until they are revealed. No other page we read says so, which makes it a single voice, best held loosely.

Where the South Node in Taurus sits

Across the axis sits the South Node in Taurus. Sepharial files Taurus under the earth signs and the fixed signs, and says “Venus governs Taurus and Libra”. Many guides describe the Taurus end as familiar ground: comfort, possessions, routine and the sense that stability is where safety lives. They present it as a strength that comes easily, with a cost only when it turns into holding on.

The pages divide on how to frame this end. Several speak of past lives or a karmic past, and one adds that the lifetimes may be taken literally or metaphorically. Others read the South Node as early habit and familiar behavior, with no lifetimes involved. Treat the past-life language as one view among several.

Holding on and letting go

The tension the guides return to is a pull between keeping what feels safe and letting it go. In the description of one page, the growth is to risk what you have for what is real. Another sums up the movement as going from holding on too tightly to letting go. A third notes that the challenge is confronting things one would rather keep private, and that the Taurus end can bring the balance back to what is tangible. So neither end is graded: the axis is described as two ways of finding security.

Several pages link the placement with psychology, therapy, healing, research and investigation. The lists differ, and one page adds writing and detective work to its version. These are associations the pages make, not suggestions about anyone’s career.

Dates: five Scorpio stays

To build the list, we asked our calculator’s engine for the mean node’s tropical sign at noon UTC on each day from 1930 to 2030. Scorpio turns up in these stretches:

North Node entered Scorpio North Node left Scorpio South Node
Mar 21, 1938 Oct 8, 1939 Taurus
Oct 31, 1956 May 19, 1958 Taurus
Jun 12, 1975 Dec 29, 1976 Taurus
Jan 22, 1994 Aug 10, 1995 Taurus
Sep 2, 2012 Mar 22, 2014 Taurus

To read it, look for the row that contains your birth date; a date outside all five rows means the mean node was in some other sign. The years are far apart because the node needs about 18.6 years to travel the whole zodiac, so Scorpio comes round once per cycle. A single stay is 566 to 567 days. Arrival order runs backward through the signs: Sagittarius, then Scorpio, then Libra. A birth just before or after a stay belongs to North Node in Sagittarius or North Node in Libra, and the axis reads from the other end on the North Node in Taurus page. Everyone born in a stay shares the sign, so what is personal is the house it falls in, which needs a birth time; a birth chart shows it.

Two ways to place the node

Mean node and true node are two definitions of the same point. The rows above use the mean node, an average that moves steadily. The true node follows the Moon’s orbit as it is at that moment. Over the 2,833 days with the mean node in Scorpio (1930 to 2030), the true node sat in a neighboring sign on 108, which is 3.81%. Expect those near a stay’s beginning or end.

Look up your own

The North Node calculator gives your sign for any date and shows whether the mean and true nodes agree:

For a Scorpio North Node: three questions

Read them as prompts and nothing heavier.

  1. What do you hold on to mostly out of habit, and what would it be like to hold it more loosely?
  2. With whom do you share things that cost you something, and what makes that possible?
  3. When something ends, what is the first thing you notice?

Questions people ask

It means the Moon's ascending node was in Scorpio at your birth. Modern astrologers read that as a direction of growth toward emotional depth, shared intimacy and openness to change. It is a belief from popular guides rather than a classical rule, offered for reflection, and it says nothing fixed about any one person.

Astrology does not assign careers, so we only report what pages associate with the placement: psychology, therapy, healing, research and investigation come up most, though the lists differ from page to page. These are associations from popular guides, offered for reflection, and not advice about work.

Some guides describe the opposite point, the South Node in Taurus, as habits carried from earlier lifetimes, and one of them adds that this may be literal or metaphorical. Other astrologers read the same point as early habit and familiar ground. It is a contested belief, offered as one view among others.

In our computation of the mean node at noon UTC, the last full stay began on September 2, 2012 and ended on March 22, 2014. The one before it ran from January 22, 1994 to August 10, 1995. Near either edge the true node can sit in a different sign for a few days.

Astrologers treat them as separate layers. A Scorpio Sun depends on the month of your birthday, while the node sign depends on the year and changes about every 18.6 months. Guides describe the Sun as who you are now and the North Node as a direction, so the two can be read side by side.

The North Node in the other signs

The North Node by house

Everyone born in the same stretch shares the node's sign. The house it falls in depends on the hour of birth, and astrologers read it as the area of life where the theme plays out.
