North Node in Pisces: Meaning and South Node in Virgo

How astrologers read a North Node in Pisces and the South Node in Virgo opposite it, plus every date the node sat in Pisces between 1930 and 2030.

Last updated September 30, 2026

Having the North Node in Pisces means the Moon’s ascending node was in Pisces at your birth. It is a calculated point where the Moon’s path crosses the Sun’s heading north, not a planet, and the North Node guide explains how it is found. Astrologers read it as a direction of growth, and the Pisces North Node is the one the modern guides tie to compassion and surrender. Below: what they say about it and the Virgo point across from it, and the dates the node sat in Pisces. The whole page is tradition and belief, written for reflection and entertainment.

North Node in Pisces, as the guides describe it

Sepharial, in 1910, lists “Pisces, the Fishes” as a water sign and a flexed one, and gives it to Jupiter. He wrote nothing about a node in it, so the reading below comes from modern web guides.

Guides widely read describe the North Node in Pisces as growth toward compassion: faith, imagination, acceptance and a willingness not to have every answer. Some add that this direction is spiritual in tone, and one calls it a journey marked by depth, peace and acceptance. Another describes a sensitive, empathic nature attuned to what others are going through. The line from Dane Rudhyar (20th century), “the North Lunar Node represents the point of intake of spiritual cosmic energies”, is closer to this sign’s vocabulary than to most.

Two pages name rest, art and solitude as part of the direction, and treat them as ways of listening rather than as withdrawal. One of them presents the whole theme as a life with room for grace, in which some things are felt rather than solved. That is the pages’ language, and it stays in the register of description: nobody is told how much rest or solitude to have.

Two pages add sensitivity and connection. One says the sign lets a person see the connections between all things, which makes for a more compassionate and accepting view, and the other calls this one of the most sensitive placements. Both are the guides’ descriptions of a temperament, not claims about how any reader will feel.

Healing, counseling, the arts

Several pages associate the placement with counseling, healing, the arts and spiritual service. The pages do not agree on a list, and they report a link to the sign without pointing any reader toward a job.

South Node in Virgo, on the other side

Opposite Pisces sits the South Node in Virgo, “Virgo, the Virgin” in Sepharial’s list, an earth sign and a flexed one, assigned to Mercury. Many guides describe the Virgo end as familiar ground: analysis, refinement, discernment and being useful. They present it as a set of real strengths, and as a habit mainly when analysis takes the place of trust.

A couple of guides tie the Virgo habits to earlier lifetimes, and one allows that the lifetimes may be literal or metaphorical. Other astrologers read the point as early habit, and the description of what feels familiar is the same under both.

Control and surrender

Guides widely describe the axis as a pull between control and surrender. One says the path is uncomfortable because it loosens the attachment to perfection and to being useful. Another says the growth is to let go of perfect. A third puts the lesson as embracing surrender without falling into passivity and trusting without abandoning discernment. One guide adds a caution in the other direction, that acceptance can sometimes tip into passivity. Neither end is graded: the pages present the Virgo skills as staying, in service of something softer.

Six Pisces stays on the calendar

We checked the mean node’s tropical sign at noon UTC on every day between 1930 and 2030, using the engine that powers our calculator. Pisces turns up in six stays:

North Node entered Pisces North Node left Pisces South Node
Jan 6, 1932 Jul 25, 1933 Virgo
Aug 18, 1950 Mar 5, 1952 Virgo
Mar 29, 1969 Oct 16, 1970 Virgo
Nov 9, 1987 May 27, 1989 Virgo
Jun 20, 2006 Jan 6, 2008 Virgo
Jan 29, 2025 Aug 18, 2026 Virgo

About 18.6 months, or 566 to 567 days, is the length of each stay. The backward drift carries the node from Aries into Pisces, then on into Aquarius, so a birth date just outside a row may belong to North Node in Aries or North Node in Aquarius, and the other end of the axis has its own page, North Node in Virgo. Check whether your birth date appears in a row; a date that appears in none means the mean node was in another sign. A row’s sign is common to all born in it, while the house is personal, needs a birth time and shows in a birth chart.

How the two node definitions compare

The rows follow the mean node, a smoothed average, and the true node tracks the Moon’s momentary orbit and wobbles around it. Across the 3,399 days with the mean node in Pisces (1930 to 2030), the true node stood in a neighboring sign on 127 of them, or 3.74%, always near a stay’s start or end. Near an edge, a birthday is best run through both.

A birth date entered in the North Node calculator returns the sign under each of the two definitions:

Something to sit with

Three questions for a Pisces North Node, with the thinking left to you.

  1. Where in your life do you try hardest to get things exactly right, and what would it be like to leave one thing unsolved?
  2. What helps you rest, and what makes it hard to rest?
  3. When you offer someone your presence rather than a fix, what changes?

Questions people ask

It means the Moon's ascending node was in Pisces when you were born. Modern astrologers read that as a direction of growth toward compassion, faith and imagination. It is a popular belief rather than a classical rule, offered for reflection, and it is shared by everyone born in the same stay of about 18.6 months.

Virgo. The nodes are the ends of one line through the Earth, so the South Node always falls at the same degree of the opposite sign. Guides describe the Virgo end as familiar ground of analysis, refinement and being useful, with Pisces as the direction the axis points.

In our computation of the mean node at noon UTC, the latest stay ran from January 29, 2025 to August 18, 2026. The one before began on June 20, 2006 and ended on January 6, 2008. The true node can be in a neighboring sign for a few days near either edge.

Not all of it. In our table the mean node was still in Aries until January 28, 2025 and entered Pisces on January 29. It stayed there until August 18, 2026. Anyone born inside that window shares the sign, and the true node may differ for a few days near each edge.

The guides we read say no. One describes the lesson as embracing surrender without falling into passivity and trusting without abandoning discernment, and another says the Virgo skills stay in service of compassion. It is one popular reading among several, offered for reflection and not as advice.

The North Node in the other signs

The North Node by house

Everyone born in the same stretch shares the node's sign. The house it falls in depends on the hour of birth, and astrologers read it as the area of life where the theme plays out.
