Saturn Return Calculator
Your Saturn return is when Saturn comes back to the exact place it held when you were born, around age 29 and again around 58. We find your natal Saturn, then every date it crosses that degree again, including the backward passes when it turns retrograde.
What a Saturn return is
Saturn takes about 29.5 years to travel once around the zodiac. When it arrives back at the degree it held at your birth, astrologers call it your Saturn return. The first comes in your late twenties, the second in your late fifties, and a third, for those who reach it, in the late eighties. Saturn is traditionally associated with structure, responsibility and time, so the return is read as a season of taking stock: what you have built, what you are committed to, what you are ready to let go of.
Why there are often three dates
For a few months each year, Saturn appears to move backwards against the stars, a retrograde loop caused by the Earth overtaking it. If your natal degree falls inside that loop, Saturn crosses it three times: forward, backward, then forward again, over about a year. In our test of 4,749 birth dates between 1940 and 2004, 37.5% of first returns had three passes. Your result lists every pass with its date and your age.
How we calculate it
We convert your birth time to Universal Time with the historical time zone of your birthplace and compute Saturn's position with Astronomy Engine, in the tropical zodiac. Then we scan Saturn's path from your twentieth birthday onwards and narrow every crossing of your natal degree down to the minute. We check the result against NASA's JPL Horizons ephemeris for six people born between 1879 and 1989, twelve returns in all, seven of them with three passes: every one of the 26 passes matches Horizons to within an hour. Questions people ask
Find the exact position of Saturn on the day you were born, then find the dates when Saturn comes back to that same degree, about 29 years later and again about 58 years later. Because Saturn appears to move backwards for part of each year, it often crosses your degree three times: forward, backward, then forward again. This calculator does both steps from your birth date and place and lists every crossing.
Saturn takes about 29.5 years to go around the zodiac. We ran this calculator for 4,749 birth dates, one every five days from 1940 to 2004: the first return's first exact pass fell between the ages of 28.4 and 29.9, with the last pass by 30.4, and the second return began between 58.2 and 59.0. Many astrologers count the return from the moment Saturn enters your Saturn sign, which happened between ages 26.1 and 29.9 in the same test.
Both answers are common, and they measure different things. If you count from when Saturn enters the sign it was in when you were born, the return can start as early as about 26 or 27. If you count only the exact passes over your Saturn degree, the first one comes between about 28 and 30. Your result shows both: the dates Saturn spends in your Saturn sign, and the exact passes.
As of October 2026, Saturn is in Aries. People born with Saturn in Aries are in or near a return now: roughly those born between April 1996 and February 1999 (their first return) and between March 1967 and April 1969 (their second). Whether you are at an exact pass depends on your Saturn degree, which the calculator above finds.
It does not have to be. Saturn is traditionally associated with structure, responsibility and time, and the late twenties and late fifties are ages when many people take stock anyway: of work, relationships, where they live. Astrologers describe the return as a period of review and commitment, and people remember the hard parts of it more than the steady ones. Nothing about the dates means something difficult will happen to you.
