Venus in Pisces is the placement astrologers describe when Venus stood in Pisces, the sign of the Fishes and the last of the zodiac, at the time of birth. Venus is read as affection, pleasure and what a person holds dear; Pisces, ruled by Jupiter in the traditional scheme, as imagination, sympathy and the dissolving of boundaries. The combination is usually described as a tender, idealistic, compassionate way of loving. What follows is the older material, the theme every modern source we checked agreed on, and a count of our own showing which Sun signs can carry this Venus.
Venus in Pisces: compassion in a water sign
Pisces is the third water sign in Sepharial’s (1910) list, after Cancer and Scorpio, and one of his flexed or mutable signs. Its traditional ruler is Jupiter, the planet of generosity, which also governs Sagittarius. Water is read as feeling and receptivity; mutability as adaptability. Many astrologers read Venus here as love that flows toward others with few conditions attached.
Sepharial’s list of what Venus confers includes “artistic powers”, and Pisces is where modern astrologers most often connect Venus with music, art and the imagination.
All of this rests on a widely held astrological belief: that a Venus sign shows how a person loves and what they value. It is a belief, and it is written here as one.
The Sun signs that pair with Venus in Pisces
Venus always stays near the Sun. Across 21,915 days from 1950 to 2009, checked at noon UTC, we never once found Venus more than two signs from the Sun. That limits Venus in Pisces to five Sun signs: Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces, Aries and Taurus.
| Sign | Sun here: Venus in Pisces | Sun in Pisces: Venus here |
|---|---|---|
| Capricorn | 8.9% | 8.8% |
| Aquarius | 25% | 30.7% |
| Pisces | 19.6% | 19.6% |
| Aries | 24.6% | 34.6% |
| Taurus | 7.2% | 6.3% |
Aquarius and Aries Suns carried Venus in Pisces about equally often, on roughly a quarter of their days. A Pisces Sun had Venus in Pisces on only 19.6% of days, the lowest same-sign share of any sign in our count; far more often, its Venus was already in Aries (34.6%) or still in Aquarius (30.7%).
A less frequent Venus sign
Venus was in Pisces on 7.01% of the days we counted. That puts it tenth of twelve, ahead of only Libra (6.98%) and Sagittarius (6.91%), and well behind Aries at 10.29%.
What the older texts say about Venus in Pisces
Alan Leo’s How to Judge a Nativity (1903) closes its list of Venus placements with an entry that, by position, belongs to Pisces. It opens “Hospitable, sympathetic and easily impressed, philanthropic”. The sign symbols were lost in the scanned copy, so the match rests on the list order, and the entry’s warmth toward others fits the sign’s reputation closely.
Sepharial’s rule is about which signs a planet governs. In its own sign a planet “acts more strongly than usual”, and the signs opposite get a different name. Venus governs Taurus and Libra, whose opposites are Scorpio and Aries. Pisces is in neither group, so under his wording alone it would be a neutral sign. His text lists no exaltations, though, and the older Tetrabiblos does: Ptolemy writes that Venus “has her exaltation in Pisces”, and he explains it by her moist nature and the start of the moist spring. Tradition therefore counts Pisces as the sign where Venus is exalted, a technical label for the seat and not a forecast for anyone born under it.
How astrologers describe Venus in Pisces today
All four of the popular astrology pages we compared described Venus in Pisces as emotionally sensitive: intuitive, accepting and quick to sense what someone else feels. That is the one theme with clear agreement, and we state it in our own words.
With a single agreed theme, the rest is the view of some astrologers. They describe a romantic, devoted and imaginative way of loving, full of empathy, and a strong appreciation for music, art and beauty. The reflective question usually paired with it is how to keep sight of who someone really is, alongside who you hope they are.
Pisces beside Cancer and Scorpio
The three water signs give Venus three different moods in the sources we used. For Cancer, the modern consensus is nurturing and protective, and Alan Leo’s 1903 entry names a “love of home”. For Scorpio, the agreed theme is intensity and privacy, and Sepharial’s rule places Venus there opposite one of its own signs. Pisces is the open, sympathetic one of the three: the most outward-facing in Leo’s wording, with its hospitality and philanthropy, and the only one of the trio where every modern page we read stressed sensitivity. Sensitivity, protection and intensity are three ways of reading the same element.
Venus in Pisces beside an Aries Sun
In our count, Aquarius (25%) and Aries (24.6%) Suns carried Venus in Pisces almost equally. Take Aries, where Venus sits one sign behind the Sun. Alan Leo (1899) wrote that Aries natives “are leaders in ideals and pioneers of advanced thought”. Next to a Venus sign read as sympathetic and idealistic, the pair shares the word ideal from two directions, one pushing forward and one taking in. Astrology leaves how they fit to the full chart.

Find your Venus sign
Venus nearly always needs only a birth date. If Venus changed sign on your birthday, the calculator says so, and your birth time settles which sign it was in.
Venus reads best in context. The birth chart calculator shows its house as well as its sign, the walkthrough of reading a chart shows where to look, and the guide to Sun, Moon and rising signs explains the three placements most people learn first.
Questions people ask
Astrology cannot say whether any person is loyal. What astrologers describe is a style: Venus in Pisces is portrayed as devoted, compassionate and deeply sympathetic, and Alan Leo in 1903 called it hospitable and sympathetic. Those are traditional descriptions of a placement, and how anyone behaves depends on the person, not the sign.
In Sepharial's 1910 scheme, the signs opposite Venus's own, Scorpio and Aries, are set apart, while Taurus and Libra are where a planet acts more strongly than usual. Ptolemy's older list adds Pisces as Venus's exaltation and Virgo as her depression, or fall. These are classifications from old texts, not judgments.
It is among the less common Venus signs, though not rare. In our count of 21,915 days from 1950 to 2009, Venus was in Pisces on 7.01% of them. Only Libra (6.98%) and Sagittarius (6.91%) were lower, while Aries was highest at 10.29%. An even split would give each sign about 8.33%.
Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces, Aries and Taurus, because Venus stays within two signs of the Sun. In our count, Aquarius Suns had Venus in Pisces on 25% of their days and Aries Suns on 24.6%. A Pisces Sun shared the sign on 19.6% of days, and Capricorn and Taurus Suns under 9%.
