Venus in Capricorn is the placement you have if Venus was in Capricorn, the sign of the Goat, on the day you were born. In astrology, Venus stands for affection, pleasure and the things a person values; Capricorn, ruled by Saturn, stands for structure, time and responsibility. Together, astrologers tend to describe a love that is serious, patient and built to last. This page covers the older texts, the one theme every modern source we checked agreed on, and a table from our own count of the Sun signs this Venus can belong to.
Venus in Capricorn: an earth sign under Saturn
Sepharial (1910) places Capricorn among the earth signs, with Taurus and Virgo, and among the movable or cardinal signs, with Aries, Cancer and Libra. Saturn is its traditional ruler, shared with Aquarius. Earth is read as practical and tangible, the cardinal quality as initiative. Under Venus, many astrologers read that combination as affection shown through effort and reliability, and as values that favor what is lasting over what is merely new.
Across astrology today, the Venus sign is widely read as how you love and what you value. That is a belief, not a result, and we describe it as such throughout.
Which Sun signs can have Venus in Capricorn
Venus keeps close company with the Sun. We counted 21,915 days, every one from 1950 to 2009 at noon UTC, and Venus was never more than two signs from the Sun on any of them. So Venus in Capricorn goes only with a Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius or Pisces Sun.
| Sign | Sun here: Venus in Capricorn | Sun in Capricorn: Venus here |
|---|---|---|
| Scorpio | 10% | 10.9% |
| Sagittarius | 28.1% | 24.9% |
| Capricorn | 21.7% | 21.7% |
| Aquarius | 30.9% | 33.6% |
| Pisces | 8.8% | 8.9% |
Aquarius and Sagittarius Suns together carry most Venus in Capricorn charts, on 30.9% and 28.1% of their days. Scorpio and Pisces Suns, two signs away on either side, had it far less often, on about one day in ten or fewer, because in our count Venus was two signs from the Sun on fewer than one day in five. For someone with a Capricorn Sun, Venus was most often one sign ahead, in Aquarius (33.6%), and in Capricorn itself on 21.7% of days.
Close to an even share
Venus was in Capricorn on 8.08% of the days we counted, just below the one-in-twelve average of about 8.33%. Six signs held Venus more often and five less often, with Aries (10.29%) and Sagittarius (6.91%) at the two ends.
Alan Leo and Sepharial on Venus in Capricorn
Alan Leo’s How to Judge a Nativity (1903) begins the tenth Venus entry, by list order Capricorn, with “Ambitious love nature; restricted affections; careful of honour.” The scanned book lost the sign symbols, so the match rests on position, but the wording could hardly fit the sign better. Read today, “restricted” sounds harsh; the modern descriptions below speak instead of seriousness and commitment.
Sepharial sorted planets by the signs they govern. In such a sign, he wrote, a planet “acts more strongly than usual”, and he named the signs opposite them separately. Venus governs Taurus and Libra, and the opposite signs are Scorpio and Aries. Capricorn falls outside both groups, so his wording treats Venus here as in a neutral sign. The classical tables give Capricorn to Saturn and record no dignity or debility for Venus in it.
How astrologers describe Venus in Capricorn today
All four popular astrology pages we compared shared one theme: ambitious and disciplined. Many astrologers describe Venus in Capricorn as taking relationships seriously, valuing commitment, and seeing a good partnership as one where each person supports the other’s goals.
Since there is only one agreed theme, the rest is what some astrologers say. They describe steady, patient affection shown through reliability and long-term loyalty rather than effusive words, a respect for maturity, and an eye for classic, enduring beauty. The reflective question they pose is whether connection can be enjoyed before it has been proven safe.
Capricorn among the three earth Venus signs
Capricorn shares the earth element with Taurus and Virgo, and comparing the three sharpens the picture. Alan Leo’s 1903 openings run from “A lover of form” for Taurus (a less certain match), through “Pure in affection” for Virgo, to the ambition quoted above for Capricorn. The modern pages we compared follow a similar path: comfort and steadiness for Taurus, careful practicality for Virgo, goals and commitment for Capricorn. All three are grounded; what differs is what the grounding serves. Our count also separates them: Venus spent 9.19% of days in Virgo, 8.08% in Capricorn and 7.18% in Taurus.
Venus in Capricorn with an Aquarius Sun
Aquarius was the Sun sign most often paired with Venus in Capricorn in our count, with Venus one sign behind the Sun. Alan Leo (1899) described Aquarians as “determined, patient, quiet, unobtrusive and faithful”. Beside a Venus sign he called ambitious and careful, the two descriptions share a note of steadiness, both under Saturn in the traditional scheme. Astrology puts them side by side for reflection, not as a finding about anyone.

Questions people ask
Astrology describes placements rather than rating them. By Sepharial's 1910 rule, Capricorn is neither one of Venus's own signs, Taurus and Libra, nor one opposite them, so the placement is neutral in his terms. Modern astrologers describe it as serious, committed and goal-minded in love, which is a character sketch, not a verdict.
It is old. Alan Leo's 1903 entry for this sign opens with ambitious love nature, and every one of the four modern astrology pages we compared also described this Venus as ambitious, disciplined or goal-minded. Capricorn's link to Saturn, the planet of structure and time, underpins that reading in traditional astrology.
Yes, and it was the most common case in our count. On 30.9% of the days from 1950 to 2009 when the Sun was in Aquarius, Venus was one sign behind it in Capricorn. Sagittarius Suns followed at 28.1%. Scorpio, Capricorn and Pisces Suns can have it too.
Mainly because of the sign. Capricorn is an earth sign ruled by Saturn, and astrologers read both as careful and long-term. Alan Leo in 1903 also wrote of restricted affections for this placement. Modern writers turn that into patience: affection that builds over time and is offered once it feels secure.
