1040 Angel Number: 10:40 and a 4 Before a Zero

1040 angel number in numerology: a 1 and a 4 split by zeros, adding to 5, with Sepharial and Decoz on the digits and the 10:40 clock time, twenty to eleven.

Last updated September 30, 2026

Angel number 1040 is a one and a four, with a zero after each of them. What comes next is a tour of its digits through the old and new handbooks and of its sums, kept to reflection and free of any prediction.

A 4 With Room on Both Sides

Reading left to right, 1040 goes 1, then a blank, then 4, then a blank, so the two working digits alternate with two empty places. Sepharial (1911) says of the 0 that it “stands for infinity, the Infinite boundless Being”. He ties it to the ending of a number, in the sense that 10 is, for him, the perfect number of the decimal system. The 10 at the front of 1040 is the one he means.

The 1 has the Sun in his scheme, and in Decoz’s words it is “strong, individualistic and goal-oriented”. The 4 is Mercury’s for Sepharial, who writes “The number of reality and concretion.” Decoz adds the modern view that the 4 reflects “strength and stability”.

What 1040 Adds To

The chain

One plus four is 5, and the zeros add nothing, so the chain ends there with no master number on the way. In Sepharial’s entry for the 5, “Expansion is represented by this number.”, and Jupiter is its planet. Decoz writes of the same digit that it is “the most dynamic and energetic of all the single-digit numbers”. For the 5 as it arises from a birth date, see life path number 5.

The two halves

The halves are 10 and 40, and they reduce to 1 and 4, the same two digits that the number contains. Its prime factors are 2^4 x 5 x 13, and read backward it gives 0401, which is not the same number.

Place value and a power of two

Laid out by place, 1040 is one thousand, no hundreds, four tens and no ones. It also equals 1,024 + 16, a power of two, 2^10, plus another, 2^4, and it has twenty divisors. The second half, 40, is four times the first, 10, which is the same 4 that the number contains.

Twenty to eleven

At 10:40 the minute hand is twenty minutes short of the hour, and a 12-hour dial reaches the position twice a day. A 24-hour display writes the evening one as 22:40. No day of any month is numbered 40, so no US date spells the number.

Two Entries, Side by Side

The entries for the 4 and the 5 differ in tone. Sepharial pairs the 4 with reality and concretion and the 5 with expansion, and Decoz pairs them with stability and dynamism. A reader who wants to compare the 4 that is written in 1040 with the 5 that is added has a ready contrast in those entries. It is a contrast of vocabulary, and the tradition never says that one digit turns into the other.

Reading the Zeros

The two zeros are in the second and fourth places, so each one follows a working digit. Sepharial’s single line on where the cypher goes is the only tradition we have for them, and it talks about the end of a number, which is where the last zero of 1040 is. Nothing else in our sources describes a zero’s role. We leave it at that.

The Plain Repeats

Strip away the zeros and the two working digits reappear on their own in 444 and 111. Other patterns are listed under repeating numbers, and the angel number calculator reduces any sequence you type.

Counting 5s in the Calendar

Across the 21,915 days from 1950 through 2009, 11.12% reduce to a life path 5. In 2027 the personal year 5 is shared by 11.48% of the 366 possible birthdays.

Questions people ask

As a number, it is a 1 and a 4 with a zero after each, adding to 5. Sepharial and Decoz describe each digit, the 5 included. This page keeps to those descriptions and the sums and does not assign a message to 1040 as a whole.

It does not change. The 4 is one of the digits, and the total comes from adding it to the 1: 1 + 4 = 5. The tradition describes the 4 as grounded and the 5 as dynamic, but no digit turns into another. The 5 is only what the digits add to.

It is twenty minutes to eleven. The minute hand is on the 8, two-thirds of the way round the dial. A 12-hour clock reaches 10:40 twice a day, and a 24-hour display writes the evening one as 22:40. Numerology counts the four digits as the number 1040.

Its prime factors are 2 four times, then 5 and 13, which is 2^4 x 5 x 13. That gives it 20 divisors in all, among them 8, 10, 13, 16, 20 and 26. Numerology does not read the factors, so this is arithmetic only.
