People type this number as 1020, 10:20 when it comes up on a clock, and 10 20 when it is thought of as two numbers. What follows sets the digit entries of Sepharial and Decoz beside our own sums, and it stays on the level of reflection, with no prediction in it.
A 2 Held Between Two Zeros
The 1 comes first, then a zero, then the 2, then another zero, so the 2 is the only nonzero digit with a zero on both sides. Sepharial’s The Kabala of Numbers (1911) gives the 2 to the Moon and calls it “The number of antithesis; also of witness and confirmation.” Hans Decoz, writing for modern readers, describes it as “subtle, gentle, diplomatic, sensitive, and cooperative”.
The 1 has a place in both. Sepharial links it to the Sun, and Decoz writes that the personality of the 1 is “strong, individualistic and goal-oriented”. Together the two digits give a pair the tradition treats as opposites, one forceful and one gentle, separated by a zero and followed by another.
For the zero itself there is only Sepharial, who says it is “the fons et origo of all things”. A zero in the second and in the last place means the number has two of these empty digits, and neither changes its sum.
The Numbers Under 1020
How the total forms
Adding the four digits, 1 + 0 + 2 + 0, gives 3 without passing a master number. Since the zeros add nothing, the total is the same as for 12 or for 1200. Sepharial gives the 3 the line “The trilogy; the trinity of life, substance, and intelligence”, and Decoz’s picture is a gifted teenager who is still under parental protection. A 3 that comes from a birth date is the subject of the life path number 3 page.
Splitting it in the middle
Cut after the second digit, the number gives 10 and 20, reducing to 1 and 2, which sum to the same 3. The prime factors are 2 x 2 x 3 x 5 x 17, and the backward reading, 0201, is a different number.
The count of divisors, and a relation between the halves
The factor list gives 1020 twenty-four divisors, among them 10, 12, 15, 17, 20, 30 and 34. The second half, 20, is twice the first, 10, which is a coincidence of these particular digits and not a rule of the method. The difference between 1200 and 1020 is 180, or 9 x 20, which follows from the fact that both use the same digits.
Clock and date
A 12-hour dial shows 10:20 at twenty past ten, twice a day, and a 24-hour display writes the evening one as 22:20. October 20 is 10/20 in US month-first order, so the halves of the number double as a date.
Why the Empty Places Matter to the Writing
A zero is a placeholder, and that is its whole job in arithmetic. In 1020 the first zero holds the hundreds place and the second holds the ones, so the digits 1 and 2 sit in the thousands and tens. Sepharial reads the same symbol as something larger than a placeholder, which is why the two accounts of a 0 are worth keeping apart: one is about how numbers are written, the other is about what a tradition makes of a circle.
Same Digits, Other Orders
Angel number 1200 uses the same four digits with the zeros at the end. 222 and 111 are the plain repeats of its nonzero digits, and the repeating numbers page lists the wider family.
A 3 in the Calendar
Among the 21,915 days between 1950 and 2009 that we ran through the calculator, 11.12% give a life path 3, and in 2027 the personal year 3 covers 10.66% of the 366 possible birthdays.
Questions people ask
It is 1, 0, 2, 0 shown as a time, and numerology reads it as the number 1020, which reduces to 3. The tradition has no separate rule for clocks. A 12-hour dial reaches 10:20 twice a day, and the 24-hour evening time is 22:20.
No. Zeros add nothing, so 1 + 0 + 2 + 0 is the same as 1 + 2, which is 3. That is why 1200, 1020 and plain 12 all reduce to the same digit. The zeros change the shape of the number, but not what it adds up to.
Only in how it is written. Both have the digits 1, 0, 2, 0 in that order, and both reduce to 3. Splitting it as 10 and 20 makes the halves visible, and they reduce to 1 and 2. The space is not a separate number.
Because it has many factors: 2 x 2 x 3 x 5 x 17. That gives it 24 divisors in all, among them 10, 12, 20, 30, 60 and 170. It is a number of a very composite kind, in contrast with a prime such as 1033, which divides only by 1 and itself.
