Personal Year 4: Building the Foundations

What a personal year 4 means in numerology, the 41 birthdays that fall in one in 2027, and why no birthday reaches the master number 22 until 2029.

Last updated September 29, 2026

A personal year 4 is the fourth year of numerology’s nine-year cycle, and the first that is usually described in terms of work. After the openness of a 3, the 4 is read as a year of structure: routines, commitments, steady effort and the practical shape of things that were until now mostly enthusiasm. This page walks through what numerologists attach to the 4, which birthdays land on it in 2027, what happens with the master number 22, and some questions to sit with. It is a theme from tradition, for reflection and entertainment, and never a forecast.

Personal Year 4 Near the Middle of the Cycle

Hans Decoz treats the nine personal years as one complete cycle, and in numerology circles it is described as moving from beginnings toward completion. The 4 sits just before the midpoint, where the early, exploratory years hand over to something more deliberate.

We do not hold a source that describes the 4 year on its own, so numerologists read a personal year 4 through the qualities they attach to the number 4. Starvela’s reading describes it as the year to organize and build: setting up routines, tidying practical matters, learning a skill by repetition, putting a frame around a project. Progress can feel slow, yet it tends to be the kind that lasts. Where the 3 widened your options, the 4 asks you to pick a few and give them real commitment.

The Number 4: Stability, Method, Concrete Form

Decoz calls it plainly: “The 4 is without a doubt the most stable, grounded number, reflecting strength and stability.” More than a century earlier, Sepharial wrote in The Kabala of Numbers (1911) that 4 is “The number of reality and concretion.” He paired it with Mercury in his planetary list. The two authors belong to different traditions, yet both place the 4 on solid ground.

Tradition does not describe the 4 year as dull, though it can feel demanding. It rewards planning and attention to basics: your time, your commitments, your home and working life. Many people find that it shows which foundations are sound and which want repair. Rest belongs in the plan as well, because structure is meant to support the freer year that follows.

Your 2027 Personal Year 4, Birthday by Birthday

The recipe is the same for everyone: reduced month plus reduced day plus the reduced year, then reduce. The year 2027 counts as 2, since 2 + 0 + 2 + 7 = 11 and 1 + 1 = 2. A 4 needs a total of 4 or 13.

The 2027 table

We computed the 2027 personal year for every calendar birthday, 29 February included. Forty-one of the 366 dates give a 4, or 11.20%:

Birth month Days in a 4 year in 2027
January 1, 10, 19, 28
February 9, 18, 27
March 8, 17, 26
April 7, 16, 25
May 6, 15, 24
June 5, 14, 23
July 4, 13, 22, 31
August 3, 12, 21, 30
September 2, 11, 20, 29
October 1, 10, 19, 28
November 9, 18, 27
December 8, 17, 26

For 2028, which reduces to 3, the 4 falls on: January 9, 18, 27; February 8, 17, 26; March 7, 16, 25; April 6, 15, 24; May 5, 14, 23; June 4, 13, 22; July 3, 12, 21, 30; August 2, 11, 20, 29; September 1, 10, 19, 28; October 9, 18, 27; November 8, 17, 26; December 7, 16, 25.

Two worked examples

A fictional February 18: February is 2, the day gives 1 + 8 = 9, and 2 + 9 + 2 = 13. Then 1 + 3 = 4.

A fictional October 19: October is 10, which reduces to 1. The day gives 1 + 9 = 10, which also reduces to 1. Then 1 + 1 + 2 = 4, with no second reduction needed. The personal year number calculator does the arithmetic for any birthday.

Could Your 4 Be a 22?

In many modern systems 22 is a master number, and its root is 4. Decoz explains its reputation in one line: “Hence, the 22 is called the Master Builder.” That pairing of 22 with building is why the question comes up on this page. Our article on master numbers covers the idea in full.

For the personal year, Starvela reduces a 22 to 4, as most numerologists do. In practice the question does not arise in 2027 at all. The largest possible total that year is 9 + 9 + 2 = 20, so no birthday passes through 22, and our table for 2026 to 2028 has no case of it either. A total of 22 needs a calendar year that reduces to 4 or more. The first chance comes in 2029, which reduces to 4, and then only for September 9, 18 and 27 (9 + 9 + 4 = 22).

Being born on the 22nd is a separate matter. The day is reduced to 4 before it is added, so a 22nd birthday does not make the personal year a master number; in 2027, July 22 lands in a 4 year for ordinary reasons (7 + 4 + 2 = 13).

The 3 Before, the 5 After

A personal year 3 comes first, linked with expression and a busier social life. It opens up possibilities, which the 4 then narrows into commitments.

A personal year 5 follows, the midpoint of the cycle. Numerologists associate it with change and freedom, and the structures of the 4 are what give that freedom a base.

When the 4 Begins

Starvela starts every personal year on 1 January, the calendar-year school that Decoz also uses. Other numerologists start it on the birthday. For a 4 year the practical difference is only when you begin to count it, not what the number means.

Questions for a Building Year

  • Which part of your life most needs a clearer structure or routine?
  • What long project would benefit from steady, unglamorous effort?
  • How can you keep that effort sustainable rather than draining?

Your personal year sits alongside your fixed life path number, which you can find with the life path number calculator.

Questions people ask

In the personal year cycle, a 4 is the fourth of nine years, and numerologists read it through the qualities of the number 4: structure, effort, method and stability. It is pictured as the stretch where earlier ideas get practical form. That is a traditional theme for reflection, not a description of what the year contains.

Forty-one of the 366 calendar birthdays, by our count. They include January and October 1, 10, 19 and 28, July 4, 13, 22 and 31, and November 9, 18 and 27. The table on this page lists all twelve months, using the calendar-year method with every total reduced to a single digit.

Only if the total before the last step is exactly 22 and you keep master numbers, which Starvela does not in this sum. The total also has to get that high, and from 2026 to 2028 it never does. The earliest case is 2029, for birthdays on September 9, 18 and 27.

No. The day is reduced before anything is added: 22 becomes 2 + 2 = 4, and that 4 goes into the sum with your month and the year. Whether a master number appears depends on the final total, not on the birth day. A 22nd birthday lands in whichever year its total gives.
