The lone digit in between is a 2. Sepharial links it to the Moon and to “witness and confirmation”, and Decoz describes a digit that is gentle and diplomatic. So 424 has two solid ends around a gentle center, in the sense of the entries set side by side, and that way of reading the shape is ours.

Four, two and four add to 10, and then 1 + 0 leaves 1, so the chain runs 424 to 10 to 1. Ten sits outside both the master numbers and the four karmic debt totals, so the route has no named stop. The 1 is where the entries end: Sepharial gives it the Sun and calls it “the ego, self-assertion, positivism”, while Decoz’s personality for it is “goal-oriented”.

Balliett, writing in 1908, adds that Pythagoras treated 1 as a number with a mystical character. The digit the chain lands on is therefore the one with the oldest pedigree among the three, which is an observation about our sources and not a claim of the tradition.

Half of each four

A 4 is 2 x 2, so each outer digit is a doubled copy of the middle digit. Factored, 424 is 2^3 x 53, and the 53 is prime. Reversed it is 424. Its half is 212 and its quarter is 106, so two halvings keep the number whole, and the second of them leaves a number that is still even. Phone numbering explains nothing about the digits, but it does explain why some readers recognize the number before they ever meet an angel number.
