Typed as 8 angel number or angel number 8, this is the digit with the widest gap between its historical and modern descriptions. It has no sum to reduce. The page shows both descriptions in full, the arithmetic of an 8, and how it differs from a life path 8. Nothing here looks ahead or tells you what a sighting means for you.
Two Authors, Two Directions
The historical description is Sepharial’s. In The Kabala of Numbers (1911) he writes that the 8 is “The number of dissolution.” and he names Uranus as its planet. Nothing in that line suggests building or winning. It describes a breaking down of what exists.
The modern description is Decoz’s, and it runs the other way: the heading of his entry for the digit reads “8: BALANCE & POWER”, which suggests equilibrium and authority rather than an unravelling. A reader starting from the old handbook and a reader starting from the newer one would therefore arrive at opposite first impressions of the same symbol. This site reports both and picks neither.
Eight as Arithmetic
Eight is 2 x 2 x 2, the cube of the first prime, and is also 2 + 2 + 2 + 2. It reads the same reversed. Among the single digits it is the largest power of two, and the only digit above 1 that is a cube. Its divisors, 1, 2, 4 and 8, are all powers of two, so halving it three times in a row brings you back to 1 without a remainder. Our clock count finds no 12-hour or 24-hour display that spells it alone, and no US month and day date that does.
What happens when an 8 is repeated
Repeating the digit does not keep the 8 in the total. Two eights add to 16 and then to 7, and three eights add to 24 and then to 6, so a run of 8s ends on a different digit each time it grows. That is worth knowing before reading a longer number by its leading digit, because the tradition we can source describes the digit and not the total of a run.
The 17 and other roads to an 8
Seventeen arrives at 8 through 1 + 7, and angel number 17 is prime as well. That route has no master number or karmic debt total on the way. The digit tripled is angel number 888, and the digit with a zero between two eights is covered on the existing page for angel number 808.
Angel Number 8 Against Life Path Number 8
A life path 8 comes from adding a birth date and is one person’s figure, while angel number 8 is a digit you notice rather than a figure you are assigned, and our page on life path number 8 covers the birth-date version.
Shares in our sample
In a count of 21,915 calendar dates, one per day from 1950-01-01 to 2009-12-31, 11.09% give a life path 8. The 2027 calendar puts a personal year 8 on 10.93% of its 366 birthdays. Neither figure says anything about how often the digit appears on clocks or receipts.

Questions people ask
Nothing is being asked of you, and a number sends no message. Numerology describes the 8 in two very different ways: Sepharial's 1911 number of dissolution, tied to Uranus, and Decoz's modern digit of balance and power. Which one you read depends on the source, and neither is a forecast.
In our sources, two things that do not match: Sepharial, in 1911, made it the number of dissolution, and Hans Decoz heads his modern entry balance and power. Outside numerology, an 8 on its side resembles the infinity sign, and in Chinese the word sounds like prosper, which gives it a lucky reputation there.
As a number you notice, numerology offers no love reading. As a life path, the 8 is described as protective, loyal and generous, showing care through stability, as our life path 8 page puts it. Neither is a statement about any real relationship, and nothing here is relationship advice.
No number attracts money in numerology as we present it. The money reputation of the 8 has two roots: Decoz's picture of balance and power, and Chinese culture, where the word for eight sounds like the word for prosper. That is language and custom, not a mechanism, and nothing here is financial advice.
No. Nothing in numerology links the 8 to the devil. Sepharial's 1911 list calls it the number of dissolution and Decoz calls it balance and power, and neither is a moral judgment. The number people connect with the devil is 666, from Revelation 13:18, which has its own page with the calm facts.
Numerology cannot speak for God, and this page does not try to. What it can report is what its own authors wrote: Sepharial (1911) called the 8 the number of dissolution, and Decoz heads his entry balance and power. Neither writes from scripture. For a religious reading of the number, a religious source is the place to look.
The sources we use name no verse for 8:08, and we will not guess one. Sepharial and Decoz write about the digit 8 and not about chapter and verse, so numerology has no verse to give. A printed Bible or a concordance is the place to look up what any chapter and verse say.
The 8 has two descriptions in the tradition we use. Sepharial (1911) gives it dissolution and the planet Uranus, and Decoz describes balance and power. They differ because one writes in a symbolic scheme and the other as a modern practitioner. Both are for reflection, and neither is a message to whoever sees it.
